Greatest American Hero at Large TV Guide (CLEAN) by Rabittooth Greatest American Hero at Large TV Guide (CLEAN) by Rabittooth
Dating myself again with this one, and more than likely I'm gonna be the only guy out there who really digs this piece. This is a mock 80's TV Guide cover portraying a team up between William Katt's character from the tv show "The Greatest American Hero" and John Ritter's character from the 1980 movie "Hero at Large". That Ritter movie was likely the very first "regular-guy-turns-vulnerable-superhero" concept ever put to film. I remember seeing it as a kid and when, a few years later GAH came out on TV thinking that it reminded me of HAL. Anyway, this is a 1980's nostalgia piece and a cool mashup / crossover parody for those who remember and like both the film and tv series. All three of four of us probably. lol.
This is the CLEAN version and there is also a DISTRESSED version to be found here: [link]

This is great! :D No you're not the only one who remembers these. While I liked GAH, it was never really among my favorites and I don't really know or remember why. It certainly had charm and was fun, I just never really got into it. However, HAL definitely is among my favorite movies of any genre. It wasn't a "big" movie, but it sure is fun and had great heart and spirit. This is a grand tribute and a fun piece to be sure! :)

Thanks! Yeah HAL was awesome. Just bought the dvd recently and watched it again with my wife. Very cool movie that still holds up today!

I just picked up the dvd recently also and it was every bit as inspirational as I'd remembered it. Also loved GAH as a kid, so this mash-up really made my day!

Yep, I have it too, and brought it with me to school here in Texas. It does hold up surprisingly well.

I cannot say how many times I watched Hero at large as a kid, and GAH was the best. Great piece!

Thanks so much for posting. Nobody gets this piece and even some who do don't appreciate it. I think you have to be in a very specific age range to feel it. I'm happy it made someone besides me smile.

I love it, and I am also dating myself. I watched GAH and I think I caught HAL on a movie channel later. Funny thing is when I teach a class, I do my bullet points on the marker board like HAL's A.

I'm working on writing a scifi/superhero novel and in the segment where one of the characters learns to fly and enjoys it, I make the comment that the character thinks the Joey Scarbury song didn't quite do the experience justice.

I felt I had to pay homage to the song somehow and make the reader remember it.

Oh yeah. The song will definitely invoke the right imagery.
