Thundarr the Barbarian by Rabittooth Thundarr the Barbarian by Rabittooth
I watched Thundarr on Saturday mornings sitting cross-legged on the floor eating fruit loops or some other such sugary concoction rotting my teeth while the cartoons rotted my brain. Like a lot of other kids at that time I thought he was really cool because he was this great cross between a Jedi and Conan the Barbarian or something. The “Sunsword” (so obviously a ripoff of the lightsaber) was a big part of it’s appeal. Also I remember thinking how cool it was that he carried the hilt on his wrist. Nice touch.
And yes, for all those observant enough to notice… that is Javier Bardem’s face I’ve thrown on there. I thought his face structure was appropriate enough to “cast” him into the role. I gave the whole image an 80's album cover feel to it also which I think really adds something.

This looks good as a live action Thundarr... Todays CGI could also replicate the Sunsword as well. The outfit is dead on as well. Your work is both beautiful and seamless. Do you plan to do Ookla and Ariel as well?

Thanks so much! I had planned on doing all three of them in one image initially, but when I was done with Thundarr I liked how he looked on his own. I dunno if I'll go back and do the other two. Not anytime soon, but I just might down the road.

I also watched Thundarr as a kid. Loved it. Javier Bardem isn't an obvious choice, but he's an actor's actor. I bet he could pull it off.

In this case I chose him for facial bone structure, but I'm sure he could actually do it too. :)
